Platonic solids

The objective of the brief was to design a light object, and the resulting sculpture was able to secure second place in a competition. The dodecahedron is said to symbolise the universe; while the other four Platonic solids represent (other shapes) earth, fire, water and air, the five elements. The sculpture measures approximately one metre in length and 30 to 45 cm in width. The design was created using Fusion 360 CAD software, which allowed for the creation of a 3D printable form. The object was then cast using a plaster mould, and a porcelain mixture was used to create the final product. The sculpture was then finished using handmade techniques, including the application of individual satin glaze.
